Jeannine "Jean" Hebert Alben passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2024, in Chatham, Massachusetts. She was born on October 18, 1931 in Saint-Gervais, Quebec Canada, to the late Mary (Brochu) and Theadore Hebert. Jean grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1949. She worked at New England Telephone before marrying Albert "Bert" Alben in 1958 and dedicating herself to raising their three children. Jean is survived by her children: Timothy (Maryann) Alben of Dennis; Catherine Alben (Michael Burton) of Southborough; and Lee Bourdon of Holyoke. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer (Ben) Selchan of Hopkinton; Caitlin Alben of Charlestown; Timothy (Lauren) Alben of Wilbraham; Patrick and Benjamin Burton of Southborough; Olivia Bourdon of East Boston; and Jack Bourdon of Holyoke. Her great-granddaughters Hailey and Mackenzie Alben of Wilbraham. Jean is also survived by her beloved sister Rita Grenier Peloquin of Austin, Texas, and sister-in-law Gail Hebert of Tucson, Arizona and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bert Alben; her siblings Lucille (Bob) Denning, Lee (Claire) Hebert, Roland Hebert, Norman Hebert, and Irene Cousineau; as well as her in-laws Chester and Catherine (O’Connor)Alben. Jean was a woman of many talents—seamstress, upholsterer, wallpaper hanger, tiler, landscaper, gardener, quilter, property manager and later in life, an artist and painter. She approached every challenge with determination and skill, often reminding her family with a smile, "You're not going to hire someone to do that, are you?" In retirement, Jean and Bert enjoyed their time between Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and Pompano Beach, Florida, forming lifelong friendships along the way. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Broadreach Hospice and Liberty Commons of Chatham for their compassionate care during Jean’s final years. With both tears and smiles, we bid farewell to a remarkable woman and mother who enriched our lives to the end. A memorial Service will be held for Jean at St. Pius Church, South Yarmouth, MA on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations are most appreciated to Broadreach Hospice, 1455 Main St. (Rte 28), Chatham, MA 02650.
