Jeffrey M. Cawley Obituary
Jeffrey “Jeff” Cawley, 64, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home on March 2, 2025. Jeff was born on July 14, 1960 in Springfield, MA, son of Bernard and Suzanne (Cardin) Cawley. Raised in a loving home on Upton Street in Springfield, Jeff was a proud product of Hungry Hill. He was a graduate of Classical High School and Western New England College. Jeff then went on to proudly serve the city he loved as a Springfield Firefighter for 32 years, retiring as a lieutenant. The three decades he served with his brothers on the job were filled with many laughs, countless sacrifices, and a sense of pride that never waivered. Known by those who loved him as a fiercely loyal friend, Jeff had a larger than life personality, and an old school outlook on life. He valued the human interaction, like a handshake, a phone call, or a walk with an old friend. In his spare time he enjoyed walks at Van Horn Park, sitting on his deck, the best room in his house, and quiet nights at home with his wife. Jeff spent many years coaching his son and many others with the Holy Name Hockey association. Despite working two jobs, he never missed his kids’ games, or trips with them down the Cape. Jeff is survived by his wife of 40 years Ann (Brassil) Cawley of Holyoke, MA, his greatest love and best friend. He proudly leaves behind his son and two daughters, Brendan Cawley, Erin (Cawley) Alexander and her husband, George Alexander, and Hannah (Cawley) Jones and her husband, William Jones. Jeff was also “Papa” to William and Owen Jones, whom he cherished. He is survived by his two sisters, Patricia Cawley and Mary Shea, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jeffrey is predeceased by his beloved parents and brother, Jackie Cawley, and his infant daughter, Casey Brassil Cawley. He carried them with him wherever he went, and is at peace with them now. In honor of Jeff, put your phone down, and enjoy those around you. The funeral will be held Friday March 7 at 8:15am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut Street, Springfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday March 6 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Van Horn Memorial Monument , C/O Bill Christofori, 110 Pinecrest Drive, Springfield MA 01118.
