Jeter C. Hall III Obituary

Jeter Charles Hall III, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2026, after spending his final days in the company of his children.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the son of Jeter C. Hall, Jr. and Laura Lee (Simmons) Hall. He went to the University of Illinois to study the liberal arts. There, he met a group of other Deaf students, where he learned American Sign Language and learned to embrace his Deaf identity. He later attended Gallaudet University.

He lived for many years in the Connecticut River Valley, where he worked as a printer. Outside of work, he loved to read; if he didn't know about something, he'd pick up a book and teach himself. He was an excellent chef. In his younger days, he was an avid snow skier, and spent many summers going up and down the Connecticut river, water skiing on his bare feet.

He was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Hall, with whom he had a special bond. He is survived by his dear siblings Jennifer Graffman, Jonathan Hall, and Gary Hall, who knew him well and loved him anyway; his grandchildren, Jeter Charles Hall V and Tycho Hall; and many nieces and nephews, including his niece, LauraLee Montanaro, who shared his wonderfully wacky sense of humor and unique view of the world.

He took his greatest pride in being a father, and loved to tell anyone he met all about his son and daughter, Jeter C. Hall IV and Rachel Hall. They love him, and will miss him very, very, very much.

Jeter loved living life on his own terms, and was not fond of ceremony. If he were to write this obituary, it might go something like “Jay is dead and the worms are eating him, but that’s fine; he has been well seasoned. They’re all having a wonderful time. He wishes for all his loved ones to carry on as they were. They'll join the party soon!"

A private end-of-life celebration will be held in Holyoke on June 7th. Those wishing to share memories or stories celebrating Jeter’s life, or to inquire about the service, may contact the family at jeterhallfamily@gmail.com.
