Joan E. Broderick Obituary
SOUTH HADLEY: Joan E. Broderick, 85, of South Hadley passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Holyoke on January 14, 1939, daughter of the late John F. and Eleanor (Daley) Kelliher. Joan was educated in the former St. Jerome Schools in Holyoke and the Providence Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1959 as an RN. She then started her journey of almost 60 years of nursing, while raising her family. Joan worked at the Providence Hospital, Dr. James Allen, Brookwood Court Nursing Home, Ring Nursing Home, Soldiers Home (Holyoke), Town of South Hadley and finally, Mount Holyoke College. She made lasting friendships with many people whom she cherished along the way. She looked forward to her trips to Hampton Beach, loved the salt air and water, and her trips to Florida to see family and be warm! Joan was the most passionate Boston Red Sox fan – dinners and family plans were all scheduled around the Sox schedule, and we are not sure how they will fare without her advice from the kitchen island! Joan loved to knit and crochet, or finish a tough puzzle. Keno or a few “scratchies” with an occasional winner to keep her in the game; all while watching Blue Bloods, NCIS or The Price is Right! She was a piece of work! Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years, John T. Broderick Jr in 2010, and two brothers; Thomas F. Kelliher and John F Kelliher, Jr. Joan is survived by her children: John T Broderick III (Fiancé Robin Bassell), and Kelly Broderick and husband Jack Long; a brother, William J. Kelliher; her grandchildren; TJ Broderick and Katie Broderick (Tyler Huller), and her great-grandson Leo Huller. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Gertrude Broderick and several nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her “boys” Rocky and Mick. Thanks Mom/Joanie/Nana for all that you brought to our lives, We Love you! The funeral procession will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 1:00pm from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00pm in St. Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 11:00am to 1:00pm. A private burial will be held at a later date as she reunites with her husband John at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Veterans Home in Holyoke, Treasurer’s Office, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
