John J. Cahill Obituary

John Joseph Cahill, age 86, of Holyoke, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at the Veteran’s Home in Holyoke. He was born in New Rochelle, New York, and was three years old when his family moved to Holyoke. John was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School, and then enlisted in the United States Army. He worked at Lestoil for twenty-three years, and then worked in the Gas Division at the Holyoke Gas & Electric Company, retiring in 2002. During his retirement, John was happy to be a volunteer at Holyoke Medical Center. He was a proud member of Holyoke Lodge of Elks # 902, and American Legion Post 325 on Sycamore Street in Holyoke. John is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Kubera) Cahill; his sons Brian (Meghan) and Sean (Linda) Cahill; daughter-in-law Kelly Cahill; grandchildren Julia Mae Cahill and Elijah Quinn, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin M. Cahill, his parents, Michael and Sabina (Meenaghan) Cahill, and two sisters: Kathleen P. Smith and Eileen Lynskey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning AT THE CHAPEL from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass begins at 10:30a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jericho, PO Box 1039, Holyoke MA 01041-1039 or to the Recreation Department at the Veteran’s Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke MA 01040. The Cahill family would like to thank the staff at the Atrium at Cardinal Drive, Agawam and the Veteran’s Home in Holyoke for the wonderful care John received during his journey.
