John B. Evans

Holyoke - John B. Evans, age 90, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Kennebunk, Maine and Holyoke, MA died on January 8, 2022 following a brief illness. John was born in Holyoke, son of the late John Evans and Alice Evans Haas. He was educated in Holyoke, graduating from Holyoke High School and the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.

John was a decades-long dedicated foreman for the Gas & Electric Co. of Holyoke before his retirement. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years with Daniel O'Connell Construction.

John loved the ocean, he walked the sandy shores every day in retirement, either in Kennebunk, Maine or on St. Pete Beach, Florida where he resided oceanside. He was also a lifelong Catholic Church communicant.

John was married to the love of his life Joan Evans for 55 wonderful years before her passing in 2011. He will be deeply missed by his six loving children and their families, Lynn (Evans) Hoar of Easthampton, MA, Mark Evans of West Point, NY, Laura (Evans) Brunelle of Holyoke, MA, Janice (Evans) Sullivan of Seminole, FL, David Evans of Roswell, GA and Michael Evans of South Hadley, MA. John also leaves behind his beloved 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who will sadly miss him, as well as his nieces and nephews who love him dearly and whom he loved as well.

Besides his parents, and wife Joan, John was also recently predeceased by his sister June (Evans) Cox.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 11:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial is private.  There are no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701.
