John Liam “Jack” Hamel, age 34, of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He was born in Holyoke, a son of the late Kevin S. Hamel and Mary D. Carroll, was educated in Holyoke Public Schools, and attended Holyoke Community College. Jack had previously worked at Holyoke Auto Glass Company, and was currently employed as a materials handler at R.R. LeDuc Corporation in Holyoke. He was a self-taught welder and machinist and a culinary expert, and had a great love of the outdoors. Most of all, he was a loving caregiver to his grandfather with whom he lived for several years. Jack is survived by his devoted siblings: Brendan J. Hamel and his wife Rebecca, and Patrick S. Hamel, all of Plymouth, and Grace C. Hamel of Boston; his maternal grandfather, William S. Carroll of Holyoke, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends. A Prayer Service will be held for Jack on Friday, April 21st at 12 noon at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10:30 am to 12 noon.
