John J. O'Brien

Holyoke:  John J. O’Brien, age 88, of Holyoke, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Renaissance Manor on Cabot. He was born in Holyoke, a son of the late William and Catherine (O’Connor) O’Brien and was a 1952 graduate of the former Saint Jerome High School. John was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1958 to 1960. Throughout his life he was employed in the banking and accounting industries, including time at Fisher Junior College, Holyoke Municipal Employees Credit Union and Westbank. John was a lifelong resident of Holyoke and a communicant of Saint Jerome Church. He was the widower of Gloria T. (Mondor) O’Brien, who predeceased him in 1993. John is survived by two sisters-in-law, Janet O’Brien and Marilyn O’Brien, both of Holyoke, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, John was predeceased by his brothers: William, Patrick, Joseph, Edward, and Raymond O’Brien. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11:00am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9:30am to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to JERICHO, PO Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041-1039.
