John J. O’Connor, Jr., 72, of Schenectady, NY, died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Born in Holyoke on May 26, 1949, he was the son of John J. “Jinx” O’Connor and Annette Keogh O’Connor. He attended Sacred Heart School, and Holyoke High School, where he played baseball, was a Tri-Captain of the swimming team, and was President of his Class all four years. A graduate of Deerfield Academy, he earned a B.A. in English from New York University in 1972. He was married to his high school friend, Kathy Klimoski, from 1972 to 1983. After college, he worked at Oaks Electric in Holyoke, then at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He subsequently worked with Professional Fire Restoration, and later at Langan Motor Car in Schenectady, from which he retired in 2021. He loved a good party, horse races at Saratoga, and following New England sports teams. He was texting about the Celtics/Milwaukee game the night before his death. He also enjoyed spending time exploring various craft fairs. He leaves five siblings: Michael of New York City; Kevin, Brian, Mary Ellen and Dennis, all of Holyoke, as well as many cousins and friends. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 20 at 10:00am in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will be held at a later date. Calling hours are Thursday, May 19 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
