John P. Dunn

John P. Dunn, age 70, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on April 14,2023. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Bramham) Dunn of West Springfield. John was educated in West Springfield schools and was chosen Most Outstanding Senior of his class of 1971. He attended both HCC and UMASS. He settled in Springfield where he lived most of his life, and he worked as a security guard. John enjoyed various genres of music, attending concerts, and singing. He also liked action movies and sports, especially Red Sox baseball and Patriots football. For the last eight months of his life, John courageously battled AML leukemia, and it was during this time that all who had the privilege of knowing him came to admire his outstanding qualities of humor, intelligence, and spirituality. His family deeply appreciates the skills, compassion, and kindness of his health care teams in Baystate Medical Center Oncology, Linda Manor in Leeds, and Pioneer Valley Hospice. The family also wants to thank Sarah S. and Martha M. and the staff of CCA for their care and support of John at home prior to his hospitalization. Special thanks to Marty and RAM ambulance for the excellent service they provided when he needed it most. All of you were more than caregivers, you were his friends. John is survived by his sister, Karen Roy of Westfield; sister-in-law, Deborah Dunn of Chicopee; one niece, three nephews, and several cousins. Besides his parents, John was recently predeceased by his brother, Joseph Dunn, Jr. Calling hours will be held for John on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. The burial will be held privately.
