John Wellington "Jack" Souther

HADLEY

John Wellington Souther (Jack), 88, of Hadley, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Clifton and Marie (Fenton) Souther. Jack was a resident at the  Belchertown State School. Jack was an avid participant in the Special Olympics well into his sixties, he won six medals over the years. Jack enjoyed the outdoors; when he retired it was rear to find him at home. He enjoyed the tranquility of fishing and was a member of the Granby Fishermen’s Club and the Rod and Gun Club at the Oxbow. He loved to be around and about in the community, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and kept ties with several close friends from his time at Belchertown State School, where he was a Ricci Class Member. He leaves to cherish his memory, his family and friends of more than 20 years, Migmar Tsamchoe, Tamding Wangyal, Kunchok Gyatso and Kathleen Bowler, as well as many others who have been blessed to provide him care and support throughout the years.  Friends are asked to gather for Jack’s Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jack to Special Olympics Massachusetts, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
