Joseph E. "Joe" Cavanaugh Obituary
Joseph “Joe” Edward Cavanaugh entered his eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 30, at Baystate Medical Center. Born on Nov. 29, 1957, to Michael T. and Dorothy (Bissell) Cavanaugh, Joe was a proud, lifelong resident of Holyoke. After attending Blessed Sacrament School, Joe went on to graduate from Holyoke Catholic High School as a member of the Class of 1975. He was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #90 in Holyoke.
A devoted family man, Joe married his sweetheart from next door and she, his six children, and many grandchildren provided him with an endless supply of joy and pride. Joe was an avid reader and history lover who could never resist a rousing episode of Jeopardy or the opportunity to recount a nugget of Holyoke or family history. He was a passionate sports fan, from playing baseball for Pat’s and football for the Elmwood Acorns in his youth to rooting for the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed music, from blues to classic rock, with none more meaningful to him than Charlie Daniels. And, of course, he believed there was nothing that could not be fixed with a good roll of duct tape.
Joe is survived by his wife Joan (Twohig) Cavanaugh; children Eileen (Chris), Mary Kate, Joey, Dan, Maureen (Ryan), and Annie (Brian); his grandchildren Hailey, Aeiden, Alex, Caidan, Patrick, Meghan, Maya and Bailey; soon-to-arrive great grandson; brothers Mick, Tom (Louise), and John (Louise); mother-in-law Elinor “Ellie” (Weissbrod) Twohig, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Ann (Cavanaugh) Comiskey and brother Jimbo Cavanugh.
