Joseph Enright, III Obituary

Joseph H. Enright, III, age 74, of Easthampton, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Joseph H. Enright, Jr., and Rose M. (Bertelli) Enright, attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and was a 1965 graduate of Holyoke High School, where he was a member of the hockey team. Joe was a United States Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Compton during the Vietnam era. He graduated from Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College and later received three Masters Degrees from Westfield State College. He was a longtime educator, retiring in 2013 after teaching for many years in the Granby and Westfield Public Schools. He also taught for one semester at Westfield State College. Before beginning his career in education, Joe was a lobster fisherman out of Gloucester MA for several years, prior to opening the Penguin Fish Market in Easthampton with his wife. They also owned the Huntington Inn in the late 1980’s. Joe had lived in Southampton before moving to Easthampton in 1993. He enjoyed vintage auto racing and belonged to the Near and Star Auto Club and owned a 1936 Ford which he called the Flying 9. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Amelia V. (Jumes) Enright; one son, James J. Enright and his wife Nicole of Hampton, NH; three grandsons, Joseph N., Thomas J., and James P. Enright; a brother, Gary Enright and his wife Deborah of Holyoke; three brothers-in-law: Chris, James and Dean Jumes; and seven nieces and nephews: George, Alexandros, Michael, Matthew, Andrea, Simone, and Grace. The Funeral will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 9:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow at Main Street Cemetery, Easthampton. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joe to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital.
