Joseph W. Hohol Obituary

Joseph W. Hohol, 86, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 surrounded by his family and his beloved dog Lily. He was born in Holyoke, MA, son of the late Joseph W. and Theresa (Kukulski) Hohol. Joe was a graduate of Holyoke High School, Class of 1956, and Northfield Mount Hermon Preparatory School, Class of 1957. He earned a bachelor's degree from American International College and a masters from Westfield State University. Joe taught math at Chicopee High School for 35 years and was an adjunct professor of math at Holyoke Community College. He coached football at Chicopee High under the legendary Bill Moge and was an announcer at many Chicopee High football games in his later years. Joe was inducted into both the Chicopee High Athletic Hall of Fame as a football coach and most recently the Holyoke High Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic achievements. A lifelong Holyoker and avid outdoorsman, he was a proud member of the Norwottuck Fish and Game Club in Amherst, MA. Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy (Driscoll) Hohol. He leaves 3 children, his son Thomas Hohol and his wife Mary-Laura (Whelihan) of Holyoke, his daughter Elizabeth Moran and her husband Stephen of Wilmington, NC, and his daughter Sarah McIntosh and her husband Stephen of Wilmington, NC. He leaves his sister Patricia Mansfield of South Hadley and her son David of Holyoke. Joe had 7 grandchildren: Andrew (Andy), Patrick, Abigail (Abby) and Eleanor (Ella) McIntosh, Donald Joseph (DJ), Anna and Alison Hohol. He was cherished by all of his Driscoll family. Joe was a unique family man who will be greatly missed and forever loved. Heartfelt gratitude to our Holyoke Hospice Life Care team who gave Joe the highest quality of palliative and end of life care. The funeral will be held on Monday, October 21st at 9:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church,169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 20th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holyoke VNA Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
