Julia Phyllis (Samulevich) Pasternak, age 96, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. She was born in Westfield, a daughter of the late Peter and Serafina (Walski) Samulevich and was a 1943 graduate of Westfield High School. Julia was a receptionist for more than 30 years at Holyoke Machine Company. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, and formerly belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Holyoke. For many years, Julia was a member of the Holyoke Turn Verein, active in Ladies group gymnastics and team volleyball. She was a former member of the Morgan School PTA. She enjoyed summer outings and picnics with family and friends at Camp Jahn on Hampton Ponds. After retirement, Julia enjoyed bus trips with her husband and lifelong friends Sally and Steve, as well as monthly trips to the Connecticut casinos. She had warm memories of her trips to Montana, California, and Hawaii. She looked forward to her annual visits to the Big E, proudly attending until the age of 93. Julia was an avid reader of novels and enjoyed complex crossword puzzles. In her later years, at her senior residence, she enjoyed Bingo, Game Night and Prayer Group with her friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Frank J. Pasternak, in 2009. Julia is survived by two sons: Michael F. Pasternak of Belchertown and Dennis Pasternak of Ware; two grandchildren: Samantha Sarno and her husband Mark of Castleton, VT and Michael J. Pasternak and his wife Amanda of Bedford, NH; a great grandson, Elijah Sarno, two brothers: Peter Samulevich and Walter Samwell; a sister, Gladys Galli, and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Julia was predeceased by a sister, Helen, and two brothers, Tip and Tony. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, April 29th at 10 am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Committal prayers will follow at 11 am in the chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. A private calling hour will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 to 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
