Justin J. "Extraordinaiire" Chavez

Justin J. “Extraordinaiire” Chavez, age 34, of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, April 17, 2022. He was born in Springfield, beloved son of Elsie N. Rodriguez-Garcia of Holyoke and Harry J. Chavez of Florida.  Justin was educated in Holyoke schools, graduating from Holyoke High School in 2006. Growing up he was a talented soccer player, playing soccer throughout his elementary, junior, and high school years.  Justin perfected everything he set his mind on.  Justin attended both HCC and STCC, and was the founder and creator of his own business: “MadeInHolyoke.” He created “MadeInHolyoke” with two goals: to raise funds to help kickoff his lyrical rap artist career and to shift the narrative of what it means to be Made In Holyoke – “City full of Pride, City full of Hope, the City that’s Alive, the City that we Know.” Justin released his “Made In Holyoke” song and music video in 2016, and since then it has amassed over 75k views and over 10k shares. He was proud to offer MadeInHolyoke merchandise, and used his platform to both inspire youth and raise funds for those in need. In addition, he proudly started and spearheaded the Community Thanksgiving Meal at Kelly School, which continues to this day. 

Besides his parents, Elsie and Harry, Justin is survived by his step-father, Gilberto Garcia of Holyoke; his brothers, Jonathan J. Chavez of Holyoke, Jerick A. Chavez of Florida, Jey A. Chavez of Florida, Jaysen A. Chavez of Florida; his sisters, Vanessa Garcia of Springfield and Nadine Garcia of Chicopee; his maternal grandparents, Jose and Josefina Rodriguez of Holyoke; his paternal grandmother, Argentina Chavez of Ecuador, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Enrique Chavez, and his uncle, Jose A. Rodriguez, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Justin on Wednesday, April 27th at 10:00 am at Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Please meet directly AT THE CHURCH. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery West, Rock Valley Road, Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 26th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, Justin’s family requests donations to BHN, 121 Elm Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
