Katherine Woods Burke passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. Kathy grew up and lived her life in Holyoke. She graduated from Holyoke High School with the Class of 1960. Kathy was a long-time employee of The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission until her retirement. Kathy loved her family and friends and would lend a helping hand to anyone at any time. She was particularly fond of dogs including her Labrador retriever Elle Woods and her many grand-dogs. She was an avid reader, Jeopardy aficionado and a Scrabble wonder. Kathy enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod with her friends and family. She was a proud Holyoker who was much involved in maintaining lasting relationships through the Holyoke High School Reunion Committee. For over 50 years, she hosted an annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade party that was enjoyed by many. Kathy is predeceased by her parents, James H. and Katherine M. Woods and sister, Anne “Bobbie” Woods Quirk and brothers, John H. Woods, James “Pat” Woods and Richard Woods. Kathy leaves two sisters, A. Susan Woods of Holyoke and Paula Kaufman of Weymouth and sister-in-law Bonnie Woods and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kathy leaves her loving children John D. Burke and his wife Jennifer, Julie Burke and her husband Paul and Paula A. Burke. She will be missed by her grandchildren Bo Burke, Jack Burke, Henry Burke and Finnoula K. Burke Montalvo. The Funeral will be held Wednesday, September 3 at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Kathy’s family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002; (413) 549-0115.
