Kathleen (Riley) Bowler Obituary

HOLYOKE: Kathleen Louise Bowler, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished member of her extended family, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on January 22, 2026, surrounded by those she loved, just as she would have wished. Kathleen was born on July 6, 1942, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to the late Mary and William Riley. She was predeceased by her parents and by her beloved sisters, Joanne and Mary Ellen, whom she now joins in eternal rest. A proud graduate of Holyoke High School, Class of 1960, Kathleen spent her working years contributing her talents and dedication to several local institutions. She worked part-time in sales at the Holyoke Daily Transcript while in school, and after graduation was employed at Grevere Engraving in Holyoke, and later retired from Hampshire College, where she was valued for her reliability and warm presence. She leaves behind her loving husband, George Bowler, and her devoted children, Michael and Cassandra Bowler, who were the center of her life. Kathleen was also a proud and affectionate aunt to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Kathleen lived life with warmth, curiosity, and joy. She delighted in card games with her family, embraced puzzles of all kinds that kept her bright and active mind engaged, and found great pleasure in cooking—especially perfecting her much-loved baked goods. A lifelong and enthusiastic supporter of all Boston sports teams, she followed them faithfully through every season. She also found peace and happiness in her garden, where her beautiful flowers, particularly her cherished roses, reflected her care, patience, and love of beauty. Kathleen’s kindness, wit, and steadfast love for her family will be remembered always. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104.
