Keith E. Sicard Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Edward Sicard on Friday, February 6, after a courageous three-and-a-half-year battle with colon cancer. Throughout his journey, Keith faced each day with strength, humor, and grace, never losing the qualities that made him so deeply loved by all who knew him. Keith was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of almost 29 years, Jane (Hojnoski) Sicard. His world revolved around his two daughters, Ashley and Abigail (Abbie), who were the greatest joys of his life. Being a dad was his proudest accomplishment, and being their dad was the role he treasured most. Coaching both of his daughters in basketball during their younger years was a true highlight, and Keith believed dad jokes were both a love language and a public service, never missing an opportunity to share one or quote a movie line. Born in Holyoke on April 6, 1970, Keith was educated in Holyoke Public Schools and remained deeply connected to his roots. He was predeceased by his father, Nelson Sicard, and his beloved feline companion, Coco. He is survived by his mother, J. Dotty (Richard) Sicard; his brother, David Motroni, and his wife, Joyce; his sisters, Donna Motroni and Kim (Sicard) Cote, and her husband, Dave; his godchild and niece, Lisa (Motroni) Robinson; his nephews, Joshua, Jacob, and Jordan; and his grand dogs, Beans and Fish. Keith treasured his family and friends and was blessed to have childhood friends who remained like brothers throughout his life. He had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys—time with family and friends, a round of golf, a good video game, a parade, great music, long days at the beach, and, above all, anything involving food. If there was a meal involved, Keith was already interested. At 40, Keith decided to take up running, proving that personal growth doesn’t have an expiration date. He proudly completed the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Road Race seven times, a feat that impressed friends who knew how much he also valued a comfortable couch, as well as cheering on the runners. He loved family vacations and travel (never missing an opportunity to sport a Holyoke T-shirt), especially trips to the Cape, where days revolved around sun, sand, and cherished visits at the Beachcomber. A lifelong New England sports fan, Keith could always be counted on to passionately cheer for the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox, with snacks and a beer in hand. Concerts were a passion of his, particularly the Dropkick Murphys, whom he saw live an impressive, and slightly ridiculous, number of times. Keith lived life with heart, humor, and a full plate, and while he will be deeply missed, he will never be forgotten. The family is especially grateful to the extraordinary team at the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, with heartfelt thanks to Laura Curtis, who began as Keith’s oncology nurse and quickly became part of the family through her compassion, dedication, and care. They also extend deep appreciation to the incredible team at Baystate Health Hospice. A service will be held on Friday, February 13 at 5:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3:00 to 5:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keith’s memory to the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care.
