Kevin J. "Nipper" Fitzgibbon Obituary

With his loving family by his side, Kevin "Nipper" Fitzgibbon passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Holyoke Medical Center.

Born and raised in Holyoke, Kevin was the son of the late James and Barbara Fitzgibbon. He attended Holyoke public schools and dedicated more than 42 years of service to the Massachusetts Trial Court, as a custodian, before retiring in 2020. Kevin was a devoted parishioner of St. Theresa's Parish in South Hadley.

Nipper had a quiet presence and found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was proud of his Irish heritage and the traditions of Holyoke. He enjoyed spending time on the beaches of Cape Cod, walking and running along the shoreline. Saturday nights often included his customary "two Miller Lites" at Francie's Tavern. He also cherished traveling to Florida and Ireland and, above all, running.

A lifelong runner, Kevin began running in his youth and continued every day until his legs could no longer carry him. He proudly participated in many St. Patrick's Day Road Races and completed marathons in Holyoke, Boston, Maine, and Chicago. He often joked that he put more miles on his sneakers than on his car.

Kevin will be forever missed by his siblings: brother, Barry (Kathy) of Milford and sister Debbie Chieco of South Hadley. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jamie (Jane) Fitzgibbon, Kara (Luke Leftkowitz) Fitzgibbon, Barry Jr (Hillary) Fitzgibbon, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Fitzgibbon, Michael (Ariana) Chieco, and Brian Chieco; his sister-in-law, Sue Fitzgibbon; his brother-in-law, Mike Chieco; several grandnephews; and many longtime friends who will cherish memories of his easy smile, gentle spirit, and dry wit. In addition to his parents, Kevin was predeceased by his beloved brother Jim.

Calling hours for Kevin will be on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street in Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:30 a.m.. Burial at St. Jerome's Cemetery will immediately follow the Mass.
