Lalta "Bill" Nepal Obituary
Lalta Nepal, also known as William, Bill, Brother Willie & Doc, 86, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 21, 1939, in New Amsterdam, Guyana, to Bachan and Cassi Nepal. Lalta built a life defined by resilience, devotion, and a deep love for those around him. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Vilma Nepal, beginning a partnership that would span decades and form the foundation of a close, loving family. Together, they raised six children, instilling in them the values of hard work, care for one another, and unwavering strength. Lalta was a man of many talents. In Guyana, he was known as a skilled baker, a dedicated farmer, and a passionate gardener, someone who could create, grow, and provide with his own hands. When he moved to the United States in the 1980s, he carried that same determination with him, facing every challenge with quiet perseverance and an unmatched work ethic. He was reliable, steady, and someone his family could always count on. Above all, Lalta will be remembered as an extraordinary grandfather. He played an essential role in raising and caring for his grandchildren, offering them not just his time, but his patience, humor, and unconditional love. He had a gift for making anyone around him feel safe, cared for, and always welcomed. He was known throughout the community for his daily bike rides around town, a familiar and comforting sight to many. He loved his radio, especially 1940s music, and could often be found enjoying his favorite Western movies. But what people cherished most was his sense of humor; he was always cracking jokes, bringing laughter to even the simplest moments. In his final days, Lalta was surrounded by love and a lifetime of memories. In his last moments, he held the hands of his beloved wife, Vilma, and his daughter Arlene, with his children and grandchildren close by, a reflection of the life he built and the family he cherished so deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Vilma Nepal; his sister, Sheila Mahadeo; his devoted children: Anthony Nepal (Jenna), Barbara Sirkissoon (Dolchan), Arlene Stella (Mike), Andrew Nepal (Subrina), Sharon Nepal (George), and Chris Nepal; his cherished grandchildren: Stacy Duquette (Drew), Sophia Turgeon, Sarah Sirkissoon, Xavier Baker, Zander Nepal, Kya Nepal, Sebastian Nepal, and Zayde Nepal; and his great-grandchild, Alana Duquette. Lalta was a beloved brother-in-law to Errol, Charles, and Claire, and a dear uncle and cousin to many. He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings, Enid, Henry, Dookie, Cecil, Albert, and Leonard, and now he is alongside them once more. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, May 15, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. A service of reflection will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Funeral services will be held at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The service will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the family he raised, and the love he gave so freely
