Lillian Y. Bacon Obituary

Lillian Y. Bacon, 88, passed away in the early morning hours of February 18th, 2025, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida after a 16 year battle against Lymphoma and Leukemia. Lillian was born on August 2nd, 1936 to her parents, Arthur and Laura Laverdiere, the youngest of five children, in the town of Holyoke, Massachusetts. There, she attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Holy Rosary High School (now known as Holyoke Catholic). She was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In 1973, Lillian would marry the love of her life, William "Bill" Bacon, on September 22nd in Springfield, Massachusetts. The two would raise seven children together, all, of course, going through hockey under her watchful eye as a hockey mom. Lillian had a colorful career, beginning humbly as a cashier at Neisner's. Then, she was a floor supervisor at Winfield Hat Manufacturers Finally, she entered food service, which would grow to be her primary career, where she moved from the Hotel Monet to Phoenix Lunch, to Catering, to the Super Stop & Shop Deli Department, where she would retire in 1997 after serving for 14 years. After retirement, Lillian began to focus on other aspects of her life. In 1999 the family relocated to Clearwater, Florida for the beautiful year-round weather. Lillian would get involved in Music Ministry at various Catholic Parishes in the area, along with her husband. Her primary parishes in Florida were St. Cecilia Catholic Church and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Lillian was a beautiful soul. She was a deeply religious woman, full of love for her family, traveling, music, live theatre, and most of all, her Lord, Jesus Christ. Lillian is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Laura Laverdiere; brothers, Hector, Maurice, and Robert Laverdiere; and her son, John McGillicuddy. She is survived by her husband, Bill Bacon; her sister, Jeanette Boczon; her sons James (Ellen Vershon) McGillicuddy and Michael McGillicuddy; stepson Scott (Christen Dinapoli) Bacon; stepdaughters Janice (David) Visconti, Elizabeth (David) Mainville, and Susan (Scott) Martin; her 14 grandchildren; and her many special friends across Florida and Massachusetts, especially The Golden Girls. Family and friends are asked to gather on Wednesday June 18 in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA at a later date. Calling hours are Tuesday June 17 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J.
