HOLYOKE
Lorraine M. Stapleton, “Lori”, died peacefully Tuesday July 17, 2018 after a brief illness.  Born on March 30, 1922, Lori was the daughter of Attorney Edward J. Stapleton and Agnes Kidnay Stapleton.  Predeceased by two brothers, Father Edward J. Stapleton, S.S.E. and Attorney William F. Stapleton, she is survived by a brother, Judge James J. Stapleton and his wife Louise Stapleton, of Naples, Florida and Holyoke; a sister, Frances S. Millane of Holyoke; and a sister-in-law, Attorney Lillian F. Stapleton.  She also leaves eight nephews and nieces: Laura Cantin and her husband Kevin Cantin of Wells, Maine; Lisa Stapleton Melanson, Ph.D. and her husband Judge John L. Melanson of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and their children, Finn Melanson of Alta, Utah, Edward Melanson of Boston, Massachusetts and Amelia Melanson of Dublin, Ireland; William Stapleton and his wife Attorney Christine Murphy of Underhill, Vermont; Attorney Edward Stapleton of Holyoke; Jerry Mullane of Florence; Louise Millane-George and her husband Jason A. George and daughter Amelia George, of Holyoke; Michael Mullane and his wife Celeste Comeau Mullane of Warwick, R.I. and their children, Mary Mullane of Kingston, R.I. and Jeremiah and Thomas Mullane of Warwick, R.I.; and Marie Schlosstein and her husband Attorney Grant Schlosstein, of Holyoke, and their daughter Molly Schlosstein. A faithful communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish, Lori was a devout and loving Catholic whose life exemplified Christian ideals.  An avid reader, Lori enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing card games like canasta with her friends.  She was an enthusiastic traveler and especially loved Europe.  Lori delighted in her role as a diligent and faithful correspondent, vicariously following the interests and pursuits of her nephews and nieces and their children.  She attended Kirtland Grammar School, then Highland School and Holyoke High School, then Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  Before her retirement, Lori worked as a secretary at the H.B. Lawrence and John J. Lynch schools in Holyoke.  Lori’s family is very appreciative of the devotion of her caregiver, Dalia Colon. The funeral will be held Monday, July 23rd at 10:30a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, 23 Sycamore Street.  Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery.  Calling hours are Sunday, 3-6 p.m., and Monday morning from 9-10:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lori’s name to Jericho, P.O. Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041
