HOLYOKE
Margaret (Egan) DeJesus, age 82, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully Friday October 30, 2020 at Willimansett Center West Nursing Center in Chicopee. Margaret was born in Holyoke to the late Howard and Helen (Sareta) Egan. She went to grammar and high school at Holy Rosary in Holyoke. She was a graduate of Providence Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1959, graduate of St. Vincent School of Anesthesia, Worcester, as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1961, Holyoke Community College in 1990, and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1996. Margaret had a vast career as a Registered Nurse, working at Holyoke Hospital, Wesson Memorial Hospital, Holyoke Geriatric Center, Monson Developmental Center, Belchertown State School, and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. She married David M. Ottomaniello in 1970 and while her children were young she and her best friend “Ruthy” started and established a home business private duty registry called Associated Registered Nurses for Providence, Holyoke, Wesson, and Mercy Hospitals. She was a member of the Lay Carmelite of the Mother of God Community. She was also a former member of the Holyoke Community College Alumni Board.
Margaret was preceded in death by her first and former husband David Ottomaniello and her second husband George L. DeJesus. She is also preceded in death by her brother Howard Egan and sister Kathleen Egan. Margaret is survived by her daughter Erin Ottomaniello Egan Paul, her son-in-law Roger Paul, grandson Matthew Paul; her daughter Gina Ottomaniello; siblings: John and Caroline Egan of Wilbraham, Mary LeBrecque of South Hadley, Judith and Jerry Clarizia of Beverly, MA June and James Hardy of Florence, as well as many nephews, nieces, and grand-nephews and nieces. Erin and Gina would like to give a special thanks to Margaret’s former home health aid Mechelle for all her loving care to their mother.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Margaret on Thursday November 5 at 10:0am at JERICHO, 537 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held Wednesday November 4 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Masks and Social Distancing required.
