Margaret "Peg" Moriarty

HOLYOKE:  Margaret “Peg” Moriarty, a lifelong resident of Holyoke, passed away on Tuesday May 24, 2022 shortly after celebrating her 100th birthday.  Her family is grateful for the excellent care Margaret received while a patient at Westfield Gardens Nursing Center in Westfield, Massachusetts.  The daughter of the late John “Jack” and Julia (O’Connor) Moriarty, Peg was born and raised in Holyoke, graduated as salutatorian from St. Jerome’s High School, and lived within a few blocks of the church for most of her life. She was predeceased by her siblings; Mary, Ellen (Helen), John and Dennis. Many friends assisted Margaret allowing her to live independently for many years. Her drivers, her former employer, Sherman Marks of the S. Marks and Company, the Holyoke paint and wallpaper store where for many years she worked as a bookkeeper, as well as Chi and Bonnie of Lyman Laundry who took good care of her.  She was very loving and supportive of her siblings and Scanlon cousins, as well as the entire St. Jerome’s community as a whole. Peg lived a long full life and took care that everyone in her generation was at peace before she left us.  Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday May 31, 2022 at 8:00 AM at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street in Holyoke, followed by Mass at 10:00 AM at Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to St. Jerome Parish, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke MA 01040.
