Margaret N. “Peggy” (Neumann) Morton passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Regal Care Nursing Home in Holyoke at age 96. She was born in Holyoke, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Sullivan) Neumann, and was a 1946 graduate of Holyoke High School. A lifelong resident of Holyoke, Peggy was a retired telephone operator for New England Telephone Company/Verizon in Northampton. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Holyoke. Peggy was an avid outdoorswoman. She loved swimming in the Connecticut River as a child, golfing, gardening, walking, and fishing with her grandkids. Peggy was married to the love of her life for 58 years, Robert C. Morton, who passed away on November 14, 2005. She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Morton and his wife Susan and her children of Westhampton, and David C. Morton and his wife Carlene of Holyoke. She is also survived by three grandsons, Timothy of West Springfield, Patrick (Alyssa) of Holyoke, and Kevin (Sam) of Nashua, NH, three great grandchildren, Milo, Theo, and Daisy, her sister-in-law Bernice Neumann, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Reidy Morton, her brother, Charles Neumann, her sister, Cynthia Strain, and her brother-in-law Daniel. The family would like to thank the New England Hospice for the loving care they gave Peggy in her final days. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a burial in Smiths Ferry Cemetery, both in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby Street, Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02043.
