Margery R. Thompson

Margery Thompson, 97, of Chicopee, MA, died on November 19, 2018.  Margery was born in Owenton, KY, a daughter of Magnus R. Thompson and Agnes (Moss) Thompson.  She grew up in Chicago, graduated from the University of Chicago, and later lived in New York City, Barbados and Haiti in the West Indies, Washington, D.C., Chapel Hill, NC, Holyoke and Chicopee, MA.  Margery made her living as a writer for the Ford Foundation, the State Department, the Fund for the Advancement of Education, and as a freelancer with a specialty in education and Caribbean studies.  She was extremely proud to be a member of the “Greatest Generation” and exulted in her family connections in the Shetland Islands and Kentucky. Margery is survived by her nieces, Barbara Thrall of South Hadley, MA, Nancy Goodman of Northbrook, Il, Jane Corley of Dallas, TX and their families, dear cousins from Shetland as well as long-time friends.  Her nieces would like to thank WestMass Eldercare and Sarawood Assisted Living in Holyoke, Chicopee Gardens in Chicopee and New England Hospice for their care for Margery in her later years.  Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Owenton, KY.
