Maria Serrano, born on December 18, 1951, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, at the age of 73. A devoted mother, grandmother, and the heart of her family, Maria is survived by her loving children, Maria and Maritza Dominguez, and her son Julio Dominguez. She is now reunited in eternal rest with her beloved sons, Luis, Alex, and Freddy Dominguez, who passed before her. She was also deeply cherished by Julio’s wife, Solange, and her daughter Maria’s husband, Jose L. Otero. Maria grew up in Puerto Rico before moving to New York City in the early 1980s. As a single mother, she raised her children with love, strength, and discipline. Her home was always open and welcoming, a place where everyone could count on finding a warm meal and a kind word. Her greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren — Amandha, Frankie, Selena, Melanie, Makeylah, Juliana, Freddy Jr., and Leannie — who affectionately knew her as “Wela” or “Lela.” Her love also carries on through her two great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to her later years. Maria will forever be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
