Marie (Powers) Rogers

Marie (Powers) Rogers, age 86 passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2023. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Gordon and Anna (Finn) Powers of Holyoke. She later resided in South Hadley and is predeceased by her brother John Powers, Sisters Ann (Powers) Hohenberger, and Patricia (Powers) Labelle.

Marie was educated at Sacred Heart High School, Holyoke Community College, and the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing, earning her R.N. degree. Marie interned at the Philadelphia Childrens Hospital before returning home to work at Providence Hospital, Holyoke Hospital, and then the Holyoke Soldiers Home where she retired as a head nurse. Marie was intelligent and dedicated to nursing, always with a kind heart and quick sense of humor. Everyone knew what floor Marie worked on because it was the floor that had all the laughter. She loved to bring her grandchildren to the Halloween costume party each year at the Soldiers Home. Even after retirement Marie received Christmas cards from the soldiers. She was always on duty 24/7 taking care of her family and anyone else who needed a helping hand. She also had a great sense of adventure and loved to travel which often included trips to Cape Cod, Rhode Island, and Maine beaches accompanied by her children and grandchildren, Patrick, Charlotte, Nicholas, Melissa, John, Corey, Brandon, Anna, and Nathaniel.

Marie is survived by her four daughters: Kathleen Rogers and husband Drew Quinlan of Granby, Susan Wanat and partner James Fernandes of South Hadley, Rosemary Hart and husband John Hart of South Hadley and Sally Allen of South Hadley. Marie will be dearly missed and her memories will live forever in our hearts. Calling hours will be held for Marie on Saturday April 22nd from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a mass at St. Patrick’s Church 30 Main St, South Hadley, MA. The burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery 25 Edison Dr. South Hadley, MA
