Mariel (Sheehan) Williamson

Mariel A. (Sheehan) Williamson of Holyoke, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 19, 2023.  Mariel was born in Holyoke on July 21, 1932 to Daniel and Mary Rose (McInerney) Sheehan and was a life long resident of Holyoke.  She graduated from Holyoke High School, Class of 1950, and From Westfield State College, Class of 1954 and began teaching elementary school in Holyoke Public School System.
    Mariel was always known to have a smile on her face and a kind word for everybody.  She enjoyed laughing with friends during her daily trips to Dunkin’ Donuts after Mass and in later years relished her trips to The Dam Café with her beloved cousin Kathleen Philpott. Mariel was very proud of her grandchildren and took her role as “Nana” very seriously, always available to lend a helping hand….and an ice cream.
    Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Arthur W. Williamson in 1993.  Mariel will be missed greatly by her children Arthur Jr (Katherine) of Holyoke, Laura (Wes) of Marriottsville, MD, Rachel (Tim) of Brentwood, TN, and Brian (Beth) of North Andover, MA; her grandchildren Meghan, Kevin (Abigail), Sean (Brigid), Mariel Chase (Alex), Laura (Hunter), Josh, Pete, Emily, Ben and Sarah; and her great-grandchild Penelope.
    The family would like to thank the staff of Providence Place, Armbrook Village, and Daybrook Village for all their care and support of Mariel and her family.
    Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.  Family and friends are invited to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Cross Church with burial to follow in St. Jerome Cemetery, all in Holyoke.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Mariel’s name to Providence Place Legacy Fund, 5 Gamelin St. Holyoke MA 01040.
