Mariellen Mulvaney Obituary

HOLYOKE

Mariellen Mulvaney, 74, cherished sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully at the Holyoke Medical Center on February 9th.    Born in Holyoke on August 15, 1943 to Helen T. (Kennedy) and Edward J. Mulvaney, Mariellen lived most of her life in her family home in Holyoke, which she and her parents and brothers shared with an extended Irish American family of loving grandparents, aunts and uncles.  Although she lived briefly in East Hartford, CT, Mariellen returned to the family home to care for her parents, which she most recently shared with her brother, Ed, his wife, Janice, and nephew Sean.  Mariellen was a private individual, forever loyal and loving to her family and friends.  She enjoyed being in the comfort of her home, where her favorite pastime was curling up with a good book alongside her feline companion, Chessie.  Since 1982 Mariellen has been employed by Thomson & Thomson Travel Company, Inc. of Hartford, CT where she took great pride in planning memorable travel experiences for her clients alongside her good friend and company President, Michael E. Thomson.  Mariellen’s parents predeceased her along with her cousin and best friend, Helen Foerster Scheufler (1990).  She leaves her loving brothers, Stephen E. Mulvaney and his wife, Susan, of South Hadley and Edward P. Mulvaney and his wife, Janice, of Holyoke.  Mariellen will be deeply missed by her cherished niece, Kathleen M. Mulvaney of San Diego, CA and her beloved nephews, Matthew S. Mulvaney (Elena) of San Diego, Andrew S. Mulvaney of Broomfield, CO, Sean Mulvaney of Longmeadow and Holyoke, Stephen Meunier of Mascoutah, IL, Jeffrey Meunier of Northampton, and Alan Meunier of Agawam.  Additionally, she leaves two grandnieces, Sofia and Eloise Mulvaney of San Diego, who she showered with love, a menagerie of stuffed animals and beautiful children’s books.  Mariellen also leaves her aunts, Theresa (Mulvaney) McGinnis of Newtown, PA and Eileen (Mulvaney) Gilhooley of Holyoke, along with many cousins and friends, especially Paul Foerster and his wife Cindy of South Hadley, Maureen Mulvaney of Holyoke, and Michael and Helena Thomson of Hartford, CT. At Mariellen’s request, a celebration of her life will be private.  Since she loved animals and provided a warm and loving home to several cats over the years, her family requests that anyone wishing to honor her memory make a donation to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O. Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.  Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home of Holyoke has been entrusted with the arrangements.
