Marilou (McConville) Chenaille passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Holyoke, MA on January 5, 1944, Marilou was the daughter and only child of Cornileus and Sarah (Curley) McConville. Marilou graduated from St. Jerome High School and the Elms College. Her career as a schoolteacher spanned many years. Marilou began teaching in Chicopee and later at Sumner Avenue School in Springfield, MA for 24 years, retiring in 2007. Upon retirement, Marilou returned as a substitute paraprofessional in her daughter’s classroom at Mittineague Elementary School, West Springfield. She is survived by her children, Julie (Galano) Penna and her husband Thomas Penna of West Springfield and James Galano and his wife Jill of Charlottsville, VA. She leaves her grandchildren, Anthony and Dominic Penna, along with Kaitlyn and Greyson Galano. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St. Burial to follow in St. Jerome Cemetery, both in Holyoke. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
