Mary Marina (Varley) Baker, age 80, of Enfield CT, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Patrick J. and Ellen T. (Noone) Varley and was educated in the local schools. A longtime Registered Nurse, Marina graduated from the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and had worked at several hospitals in the area. She dedicated her life to raising her sons and taking care of her husband and family. Marina was a longtime communicant of Saint Adalbert’s Church in Enfield, and taught CCD there for several years. She was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball fan. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edwin G. Baker, six sons: Patrick A. and his wife Susan of Longmeadow, Stephen E. and his wife Olive of Los Angeles CA, Brian T. and his wife Florence of Enfield, John C. of Chicago IL, Daniel C. and his wife Patricia of Clinton MD, and Michael T. of Enfield; seven grandchildren: Katelyn, Patrick, Casey, Amanda, Kyle, Iliana and Esther; a great grandson Braedan, several cousins, and her extended family in Ireland. Marina was predeceased by an infant son, John Baker, and one brother, Rev. John J. Varley in 2009. The funeral will be held Friday morning, April 6th at 8:15 from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Our Lady of the Cross Church, 23 Sycamore Street, Holyoke at 9:15 a.m. Committal will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation at www.curearthiritis.com
