Mary Margaret (O'Brien) Brennan

Mary Margaret (O’Brien) Brennan, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 in Meriden, Connecticut after a six-month battle with breast cancer. Born in Springfield, the daughter of Springfield Police Detective George Dennis O’Brien and Mary Katherine Heffernan, Mary spent most of her adult life in Holyoke. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and a member of the Elms College Class of 1959, and studied as a postgraduate student in Education at Westfield State College. Mary spent 36 years as a teacher, mostly with Holyoke Public Schools teaching preschoolers, and she left a lasting legacy on the lives of thousands of children. She was also an active member of her union, representing her coworkers at the bargaining table, and was involved in local Democratic politics. She spent many summers at Camp Mishnoa in Holland, first as a camper and counselor, and then as assistant director. Mary is predeceased by her parents and her son-in-law, Francis Nicoll, Jr. She leaves behind her two daughters, Kerry Conway of Agawam and Kate Nicoll of Cheshire, CT; her two sons-in-law, Edward Conway and Karl Kreidwise, and her seven grandchildren: Alex Nicoll, Kaylee Kreidwise, John Conway, Liam Nicoll, Matt Conway, Maya Kreidwise and Mary Ellen Conway. She will be remembered for her quick wit and love of movies. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 14th at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, for a Funeral Service which will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will be held privately at the family’s convenience.
