Mary (Miller) Kates, age 94, passed away peacefully August 17, 2024 at Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke. A lifelong resident of South Hadley, Mary was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Harrigan) Miller, and was a 1952 graduate of the Nursing School at the University of Massachusetts. She was the longtime Director of the Holyoke Public Library, retiring in 1997. Mary was predeceased by her husband Solis Kates in 2006. She is survived by her loving son Nicholas Nolen of Holyoke. Mary was also predeceased by her sister, June L. Beattie and sister Joyce Peterson. The family would like to offer special thanks to the entire staff of Renaissance Manor in Holyoke for their outstanding care, comfort, and support. All services will be private. The Barry J.
