Mary M. (Monaghan) LaMontagne

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret LaMontagne (née Monaghan) of South Hadley, MA, on August 4, 2023. Mary was born in Holyoke, MA, the daughter of the late George and Doris Monaghan. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend to many. Mary lived her entire adult life in South Hadley where she raised her family. She was a graduate of Rosary High School in Holyoke in 1956 and in the same year she was awarded the title of Grand Colleen of the second annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade. For many years her days were filled running the kitchen of “Ronnie’s Restaurant” on South Street in Holyoke alongside her husband, Ronald Emery LaMontagne who passed away in 2008. In later years, she took great pride in spending her days with her three grandsons, Michael, Ryan and Connor Williams. Mary was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Hunter, and Zoey Williams. Mary is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her son, Daniel LaMontagne of South Hadley; daughter, Lori Howell of Hampton, New Hampshire; her son-in-law, Chris Howell; her beloved sister and best friend, Ellen Higgins; two lifelong dear friends and constant sources of guidance, Barbara Baran and Gail Gaughan; her loving companion and friend, Raymond Rondeau; her granddaughters-in-law, Caralyn and Samantha Williams, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she is also pre-deceased by her brother, George “Butch” Monaghan. Mary was a devout Catholic and faith was a constant in her life. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Parish in South Hadley. A funeral mass will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Theresa of Lisieux Church, 9 E Parkview Dr, South Hadley, MA. Burial will be held privately and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Visitation Sisters in Tyringham, MA. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke is handling the arrangements
