HOLYOKE
Marybeth (O’Connor) Murphy, a lifelong resident of Holyoke, died Tuesday, January 21 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving husband and family. She leaves her husband of 35 years, Michael E. Murphy, her siblings Kathleen O’Connor (Anthony Cerini) of Granby, Sheila O’Connor Miehm (Timothy) of Longmeadow, and Terry O’Connor (Wendy) of Holyoke. She also leaves her aunts Sr. Patricia Thomas, SSJ of Framingham and Nora McAndrew of Holyoke. In addition she leaves her nieces and nephews Kathleen (Justin) Dion and Brian (Laura) Murphy of Longmeadow, Shannon(Jeffrey) Bloom of East Longmeadow; Ainsley (Patrick) Kelley of NYC, Connor Miehm (Anne) of Arlington, VA, Julia Miehm (Ashley) of West Springfield, MA, Jeffrey, Julie and Emily Sawyer of Granby, MA and Melissa Werner, Erin Matthey, Joseph Piggot of Pennsylvania and Gino O'Connor of Agawam. Marybeth also leaves many devoted cousins and lifelong friends. She was a 1975 graduate of Holyoke High School and attended Holyoke Community College. She was employed at Holyoke Adult Day Care, Posters, Inc. and was a volunteer at Jericho, all in Holyoke. She was a woman of faith, a proud American, and an avid reader. She enjoyed nothing more than hiking, and exploring the backroads of western Massachusetts with Mike. She was a magnet for babies and children and savored the love and devotion of family dogs. She brought kindness and laughter into every life she touched. Marybeth confronted her many health challenges with grace, dignity and a healthy dose of humor. She traveled to and from Mass General Hospital for the past 15 years where she was regarded as a remarkable patient often called upon to assist, advise and comfort new patients. Her family would like to extend its appreciation to Dr Jay S. Loeffler, Chief, Dept of Radiation Oncology for his compassionate care. The funeral will be held Saturday January 25 at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will take place in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday January 24 from 2:00 to 7:00pm. Memorial contributions in Marybeth’s name may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, 577 Carew St. Springfield, MA. 01104
