Matthew R. Fenton Obituary
Matthew Robert Fenton passed away after a long battle with CADASIL. Born and raised in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Matthew was proud to be a Holyoker. He later made his home in Westfield, where he raised his two children, Lindsey and Kayla — the lights of his life. He adored them more than anything. Matthew graduated from Holyoke High School in 1983, and later graduated with a Bachelor's in Computer Information Systems from Westfield State University in 1998. He was a natural athlete who loved football, baseball, and hockey, and continued playing adult softball well into his later years. Golf was one of his greatest joys, especially the yearly family tournament he shared with his dad, brothers, and cousins. Music was also a big part of Matthew’s life. He was a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen and never missed a chance to see him live — if Bruce was nearby, Matt was there. He worked for McKesson in Hadley as a programmer for nearly 20 years, and he took great pride in his work. Matthew was the son of the late Mary Baker Fenton and Robert Fenton (Sally). He leaves behind his daughters, Lindsey and Kayla Fenton of Westfield. He is also survived by his brothers, James Fenton (Michelle) and Thomas Fenton (Lori); nieces and nephews Jenna Fenton, Colin Fenton, Daniel Fenton (Erika) and his great niece Madeline and great nephew Joseph; as well as his step-sister Hillary (Brad) OsGood; and nephew Hayden. Matthew always said his sisters-in-law were the sisters he never had. He shared a lifelong bond with his cousin and best friend, Peter (Cindy) Costanza, whose friendship he deeply cherished. He also maintained a close friendship with his ex-wife Melissa, who remained supportive until the end. Matthew loved his family more than anything, always lighting up when he saw them. Matt had a big heart, a quick wit, and a laugh that could fill any room. He loved sports, a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, as well as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also loved music and a good joke — but most of all, he loved the people in his life. His family would like to thank everyone who brought him laughter, love, and friendship throughout the years. Service details will be announced at a later date.
