Matthew Joseph Sattler Obituary
Matthew Joseph Sattler, 53, of West Holyoke, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, April 25, 2025 at his home. Matt lived his entire life in West Holyoke, and attended Holyoke schools. He was a 1990 graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School, where he was a member of the Soccer team and Ski team for all four years. Growing up, he spent many nights and weekends skiing at Mount Tom with family and friends. Matt took some local college classes, and worked later at the Holyoke Water Department before spending more than 25 years as a lineman at Verizon-Hatfield. He also owned and operated a very successful tree service, MSTS.
Matt was a true outdoorsman, who could fix everything, and was not afraid to try anything. He was a skilled shooter, and an avid hunter of large game, including deer, bear, turkey. Matt hunted all over New England, and travelled several times to Colorado and Canada with friends and family to hunt elk and caribou. Matt also enjoyed fishing, both fresh and salt water, and went deep-sea fishing every summer with a group of friends, as well as ice fishing, entering many tournaments. In 1999 he saved someone who fell through the ice at midnight at the Oxbow. He would participate in scuba diving, and spent many weekends with friends camping and lobstering in Gloucester. Matt was always seen on dirt bikes, quads, ATV’s and snowmobiles. He was always very family oriented, and a true best friend to many. He truly cherished his relationships with all who knew him, and loved spending time on the family farm bailing hay, gardening, repairing the tractors and farm equipment, cooking and grilling, and playing cards, especially pitch. Matt was often seen driving around West Holyoke in his big Ford truck, always lending a hand and offering to help. He loved golden retrievers, and was the proud father of Tucker, a two-year old golden. Seldom was one seen without the other. Matt lived life to the fullest, never bowing down to his illness, and always put others first. He was one-of-a-kind, a man of values, and was committed to family and friends. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marie (Beaulieu) Sattler, whom he married in March of 2024. He enjoyed spending time with Marie’s three children: son Dave and wife Amy, son Matt, daughter Nikki, and her grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved parents, Art and Lani Sattler, a brother Scott, his wife Michelle, and their children Reese and Ty; his twin sister, Jennifer Sattler Murphy, husband John, and their son Cash, along with many other close friends and extended family. A graveside service will be held Thursday morning, May 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Forestdale Cemetery West, 210 Rock Valley Road, Holyoke (Meet directly at cemetery).
