Maureen Theresa (Kelly) Ferriter, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on April 28th. She was born in Holyoke on August 24, 1957, to her dear parents Mary (Cassidy) Kelly and Patrick Kelly whom she adored. Maureen earned a BA from the College of our Lady of the Elms and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Assumption University. She enjoyed success throughout her career as a Social Worker. Those of us who knew her well admired her for her tireless and tenacious commitment to the countless students she served for almost 30 years as a Vocational Counselor in the Springfield Public Schools. Her students will miss her, their greatest champion and advocate. Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased last summer by her loving husband of nearly 45 years, William K. Ferriter, Sr. Maureen leaves behind her loving and devoted sons, Thomas P. Ferriter and William K. Ferriter, Jr., both of East Longmeadow; her siblings, Margaret Ann Kelly of South Boston and Holyoke, and Brian Kelly and wife Margaret (Dupont) Kelly of Holyoke. She also leaves her cousins; Mary Nietupski of Wilbraham, Susan Ellen Fitzgerald of Longmeadow, and Thomas Greaney of Holyoke, as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law with whom she was very close over the decades, and who will miss her greatly. Maureen leaves her nephews Patrick, Sean, and Brendan Kelly with whom she had a loving and close relationship with. She will be sadly missed by 7 nieces and a nephew who loved her dearly and will miss her always. Family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues are invited to celebrate Maureen’s life on Monday, May 18, 2026 for a calling hour from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., both to be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street in Holyoke.
