HOLYOKE
Maurice Laverdiere, 91, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018. Maurice was born March 31, 1927 to Arthur Laverdiere and Laura Phaneuf in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Rosery High School. Maurice was a veteran of WWII having served in the Navy. Maurice spent 37 years as a member of the Holyoke Fire Department. Retiring at the rank of First Deputy Fire Chief. In 1964 Maurice was the recipient of a letter of commendation from the Board of Fire Commissioners and the Chief of the Fire Department for bravery and action in the line of duty. Maurice loved to spend time with his family and friends. He and his wife Claire enjoyed visiting the coast of Maine and Bonita Beach Florida. He was actively involved in golf, spending many mornings on the links of the Holyoke Country Club with his crew – the “Wild Geese.” Maurice is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Claire Fleming Laverdiere. He is survived by five children; Michael and Joanne Laverdiere of Orleans, Massachusetts, Jean Deforge of Chicopee, Massachusetts, Laura and Richard Burbine of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Nancy Laverdiere of Easthampton, Massachusetts, and Maurice Laverdiere of Denver, Colorado; 9 grandsons and 8 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018, Blessed Sacrament Church at 11am. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fireman’s Aid Association, c/o Capt. Kirk Krause, Fire Headquarters, 600 High St., Holyoke, Ma 01040.
