Merrick Reed Mugnier, age 57, of Ware, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center.
Born August 17, 1964 in New London, CT, he was the son of the late Alston D. Mugnier Jr. and Helen (Honey) E. Parker. Merrick graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, VA in 1983. While a student at MVHS, he was a member of the cross-country and track teams, and was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. His interests in the outdoors and nature led to post high school studies in forestry at Paul Smith's College in the Adirondack Mountains of NY and Unity College in Unity, ME. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Forestry at Unity. Merrick worked for many years as a lumberjack. In his spare time, you could often find him biking, hiking, or fishing.
Merrick is survived by his brother, Alston D. Mugnier and his wife Jennifer of Coldwater, KS; sister, Margaret E. Mugnier of Colchester, CT; and step-father, Terry J. Patterson and his wife Mary of Plympton, MA. Other survivors include three step-brothers: Richard W. Patterson and his wife Kelly of Davenport, WA., John K. Patterson and his wife Theresa of Fairfax County, VA, and James E. Patterson and his wife Kathryn of Marrieta, GA. Merrick will also be missed by his nieces, Miranda (and her son, Dante Verdalette), and Taylor Mugnier; and many first and second cousins, including Todd and Suzanne Parker who were very supportive during Merrick's end of life journey.
A brief service will be held for Merrick on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:00 am in Quabbin Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swift River Valley Historical Society, PO Box 22, New Salem, MA 01355.
