HOLYOKE
Michael “Mike” Bresnahan, age 56, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Mike was born in Holyoke, the son of Claire J. (Monahan) Bresnahan of Holyoke and the late James Patrick Bresnahan. He was educated in the Holyoke schools and earned his Associates Degree at Holyoke Community College. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish in Holyoke. Michael is survived by his mother, Claire J. Bresnahan of Holyoke; son Michael Bresnahan Jr. of Holyoke; four brothers: James P. Bresnahan Jr. of Worcester and his children Andrew and Sean; John Bresnahan of Maynard, his wife Trish Saunders, and children Andrea and Eleanor; Patrick Bresnahan of Holyoke; and Daniel Bresnahan of Holyoke, his wife Carolyn, and children James Patrick III and Valentina; aunts and uncles; and many cousins and friends. An active and independent man, Michael made friends wherever he went. Michael had a passion for cooking and was employed for many years as a line chef at the Log Cabin Restaurant. He was a longtime volunteer with the Franciscan Missionary Sisters. He was an avid Boston Bruins fan and enjoyed watching his nephew Jimmy and Valentina play hockey. He was a voracious reader and music enthusiast and enjoyed a wide range of literary and musical genres. Michael’s generous spirit was apparent to all who knew him. He was happiest during the holidays surrounded by his family and friends, especially his son Michael Jr. and his nieces and nephews. Michael’s most cherished memory was a family trip to the Bresnahan ancestral home Dingle, Ireland. Family and friends are welcome to attend Mike’s Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 9:30am in St. Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
