Michael Joseph Pijar, 72, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Douglasville, Georgia. Michael was born in Holyoke, son of the late Casimir and Eileen (Galvin) Pijar. After joining the United States Air Force Mike decided to make a career of it and spent 31 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sargeant. He worked in the 104th Air Division at Barnes as a Jet Engine Technician. Michael was predeceased by his wife Joanne (LaBrie) Pijar in 2001. He is survived by two daughters: Maureen Garcia and her husband Lazarus; and Bethann Rogers and her husband Justin; a granddaughter Emily; brother, Jack Pijar and his wife Mary; a sister, Cathreine Mayo and her husband Russell; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Monday December 30 at 8:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial with military honors will be held in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11:00am. Visitation will take place on Sunday December 29 from 2:00 to 5:00pm in the funeral home.
