CHICOPEE: Muriel P. (Cote) Redfern passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Holyoke, daughter of the late Leo Noe Cote and Charlotte (Duclos) Cote. Muriel moved to West Springfield at an early age and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1949. She married the love of life, Lou; they were married for 60+ years and were still blissfully in love.
Muriel was employed as a Claims Adjuster for Aetna Insurance and joined Hannoush Jewelers as “part time Christmas help” which turned into full time as an Assistant Manager in several of the Hannoush stores, training new store managers, a position she did not want. Muriel ended her career there, being the first employee of the company to retire.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Charlene Hopkins (W. Lance), Louise Kidder, and Lynne Godbout (Daniel), Grandchildren are Christopher D’Angelo (Kim), Jonathan Rymasz (Heather), Melissa Escalante (Rob), David Przybyla, Erik Przybyla, Daniel Godbout, Jr. and Derrick Godbout, and Lance J. Hopkins. Great Grandchildren Jayden and Danica D’Angelo. In addition to her parents, Muriel was predeceased by two brothers, Leonard and Lionel Cote.
In addition to spending 51 years at their summer lakeside cottage in the Berkshires, Muriel and Lou enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and Canada with the Shriners as she was a Daughter of the Nile and Lou a Shriner. On their own, they travelled to Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein, always “B&B’ to “get to know the people”.
Needless to say, Muriel led a full and enjoyable life with the love of her life. She and her husband had a favorite saying “Love forever and a day and as long as there is a day, forever never gets here.” Ergo they will be together forever.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
