Nora Marie (Ward) Martin

HOLYOKE:  Nora Marie (Ward) Martin entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 14, 2023.  A lifelong resident of Holyoke, she was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish, a graduate of the Parish School and a 1943 graduate of Holyoke High School.  She was born August 27, 1925 to Galway natives, Patrick and Delia (Skerritt) Ward.  Marie was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Timothy P. Martin on January 24, 1999; her sister, Catherine T. Ward on January 3, 1938; and her brother, William J. Ward on July 11, 2003.  She is survived by two sons:  Timothy P. Martin, Jr., of New Britain, CT and Terrence E. Martin of Holyoke, as well as several nieces, nephews and their families.  Marie was employed for over thirty years by the U.S. Government, as a Secretary at USAF Westover Base Hospital and retiring from the Holyoke Social Security Office in 1983.  She enjoyed volunteering:  was a Red Cross Nurses Aid during World War II, evenings and weekends in both, Holyoke and Providence Hospitals, a Parish CCD Teacher after retirement as well as tutor for GED students at the Holyoke Public Library and the Lawrence School. She especially enjoyed continuing her education at Holyoke Community College. Marie was a member of Cursillo, the National Association of Federal Employees, Chapter 484, and the Holyoke Council on Aging. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 1:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. A private burial will take place at a later date.  Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11:30am to 1:00pm.  The family would like to thank Hospice Regal Care and the nurses at Holyoke Medical Emergency Room for the care they provided Marie.
