Norma Gonzalez Obituary

Norma Gonzalez passed away February 12, 2025 in the warm and comfort of her home with family. She fought a long and tough battle with cancer. Her will to live kept her going for 16 months. Never complained and always with a smile on her face even though she was pain. Born March 10, 1941 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico is predeceased by her Mother Mariana Ortiz, Father Modesto Gonzalez and nephew Ricardo Gonzalez all of Puerto Rico. Norma was very vibrant, caring, loving and nurturing who loved her two daughters and her two grandchildren with all her heart. They were her entire life and gave them her unconditional love. She loved her Son in law who always had a way of making her laugh. She loved and enjoyed music, writing poetry, gardening, cooking, going on walks and making people laugh. Her poems were published in the Spanish newspaper “El Pueblo Latino” and can also be seen on Masslive. Loved her home and was always cleaning even her neighbor’s yards because she loved seeing her surroundings beautiful. Her love of life and selfless act were truly unmatched, she’d give the shirt of her back always thinking of others. While in Chemotherapy Norma would say “I love chemo.” She considered this her social time where she loved interacting with other cancer patients and the amazing Doctors, Nurses and staff. Always giving them hugs, saying I love you and making them smile. Norma was called the Fashionista because even in pain she would dress beautifully even to just go to chemo. She was truly loved by everyone she encountered. She had a lot of faith and prayed for all. Norma is survived by her two daughters Mady Sauriz and Evelyn Gonzalez and her husband Javier Gonzalez all of Holyoke. Two grandchildren Kalina Gonzalez Hamilton and Evan E Feliciano both of Florida. Brother Raul Gonzalez and his wife Carmen M Ortiz of Aibonito, Puerto Rico and sister Maria V Gonzalez of Bayamon, Puerto Rico as well as many nieces and nephews. The Family is eternally grateful to the Holyoke Medical Oncology Department for all the best incredible, dedicated care and support system our Mom received. Thank you to the Holyoke VNA Nurses and Hospice team and staff for their dedicated care and support system as well. Our family could not have gone through this cancer journey without each and every one of these amazing special people at HMC & VNA. She may not be here with us but we feel her loving presence and all the beautiful memories left behind. Gone from our sight but never gone from our hearts. We love you! The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 12:00 noon in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. A calling hour will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of Flowers you may donate to the Holyoke Medical Oncology Department.
