Patrick Brennan Obituary

Patrick passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning after a strong fight with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 57. Pat was born and raised a Holyoke kid, growing up on Gilman Street to the late Martina and Robert “Bo” Brennan. When he wasn’t running around with neighborhood kids, he attended Blessed Sacrament, Metcalf, and Peck Schools, then attended Holyoke High School. Patrick excelled in athletics playing Basketball and Baseball for the Knights. Pat wore purple on his sleeve. An avid Bruce Springsteen fan, his “Glory Days” were winning the 1985 Division 1 Baseball State Championship against BC High. Patrick went on to continue his baseball career and studies at Siena College in Loudonville, New York. After college, Patrick shined most in the service industry. He began at Monte Cristo Liquors, went on to manage The Hotel Northampton, then Pizzeria UNO, and eventually fulfilled his dream of owning a business with his wife—Brennan’s Place. Later, he shared his passion with the next generation as a culinary arts teacher at Dean Technical High School, proudly balancing both teaching and running the pub for two years before returning back to his favorite career, Brennan’s Place, full time. In 1995, Patrick married the love of his life Vallerie Brennan and then soon after welcomed children into his life.

Patrick was a proud and loving father to four children—Ryanand Bradley, who passed away shortly after birth, and Siobhan and Samantha, who became the center of his world. Being a father meant everything to Patrick. He poured his heart into raising his daughters, showing up for them with encouragement, humor, and unwavering support. Some of their favorite memories are of long drives home after sports games, where Patrick would coach, debrief, and celebrate with them, always ending in bouts of laughter. He was either coaching or always on the sidelines (away from everyone else) and was always their biggest fan. His love for his children was the truest expression of who he was.

Patrick loved life and would tell anyone who listened. He always wanted more. Whether it was taking St. Patrick’s Day weekend and bringing it alive by putting up a 10x10 tent in the back parking lot of Brennans and watching it grow into an insane success year-after-year, to wanting more for the community - coaching HHS baseball, CYO basketball, Holyoke youth softball, to being a complete dog lover, Patrick was the one to keep life from being too serious all the time- he managed to do it all.

He leaves behind his loving wife Vallerie (Chesky) Brennan of 30 years, daughters Siobhan and Samantha, dogs Matilda and Blue, sisters Anne Brennan, Eileen Foley (Jim) and Sally Meiers (Billy). Mother-in-law Patricia Gray, sister-in-law Victoria (Chesky)Cahill(John). A handful of nieces and nephews, Mary Kate Foley, Neil Foley, Theresa Schmidt, Patrick Schmidt, Ben Ferro, Melanie (Talbot) Doherty, Elizabeth Cahill and Jack Cahill. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Martina and “Bo” Brennan, his two sons, Ryan and Bradley Brennan, father-in-law Larry Chesky, sister-in-law Laura (Chesky) Talbot, brother-in-law Marc Talbot. Patrick loved every small moment and was always grateful to be able to “put his two feet on the ground each morning”. Patrick is so loved and will be missed by many.
