Paul Mihalak, 76, of Holyoke, MA and formerly a long-time resident of South Hadley, MA passed away in his sleep at home after an extended illness. Paul was born and raised in Holyoke, MA and was the son of the late Charles “Kelly” Mihalak and the late Caroline “Kay” Tremblay. He was also the step son of the late Joseph Tremblay. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School (Class of 1967) and the Holyoke Police Academy. Paul retired from the police department in 1994 with his final position as a Court Liaison Officer. He had previously served as a Patrolman and a Narcotics Detective for the City of Holyoke. Paul leaves behind his children, Glenn Mihalak (Lynn) of South Hadley, MA, Kelli Conrad (Jeff) of Franklin, MA, and Andy Mihalak (Erin) of Whately, MA. Paul also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Dean Conrad, Moira Mihalak, Drew Conrad, Adam Conrad, and AJ Mihalak, as well as twin great grandsons (Moira), Elliott and Enzo Tanguay. He was the longtime partner of Joanne Labrie, with whom he lived with in Holyoke, MA. Paul also leaves behind the extended Labrie family whom he cared for greatly. Paul was the brother of the late Ronald Mihalak and John “Jackie” Mihalak. He is survived by his sisters Linda Palaia and Patricia Fournier and brother Daniel Mihalak, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In his youth, Paul was a proud member of the Holyoke Boys Club and he participated in the Golden Gloves Tournament as a featherweight boxer. Later in life, Paul played an integral role in the effort to rename Bond St. in front of the Boys Club, to Nick Cosmos Way in honor of his friend and beloved former Executive Director of the Club. Paul was an avid New England sports fan especially rooting for the Boston Red Sox. He had enjoyed many years of league 10-pin bowling and golfing with friends and his son, Andy. Paul organized the Sunday Sunrise Golf League at the American Legion- Post 351 in Holyoke for many years. He took great pride in his caring for his home and yard including his cherry trees, blueberry/raspberry bushes and grape vines. Paul was also known for his annual Columbus Day yard sale at his home on Newton St., South Hadley. A special thank you to Joanne Labrie for her incredible kindness, care and support of our father in the past year of his illness. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 10:30am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley.
