Paula (Gagliarducci) Brunault Obituary

HOLYOKE: Paula (Gagliarducci) Brunault was born on June 24, 1937 in Springfield, MA to the late Milton Gagliarducci and Vivian McNelly. Paula was devoted to her Catholic faith, her family, and her community. She was educated in Springfield Schools and received a diploma in Nursing from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. While in nursing school Paula met the love of her life, Attorney Harold Brunault. Paula and Harold were blessed with 64 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2022. After settling in Holyoke, Paula became involved in numerous civic and religious activities. Paula serviced as a eucharistic Minister to the homebound, was an adult advisor to Teen Encounter, taught CCD, and wrote for the Jericho newsletter. Paula was the Chairperson of the successful campaign to keep EWTN Catholic Television on the local airways. She was a member of the Cursillo community. She and Harold were co-founders and leaders of the Catholic Couples Ministry One in Christ and were instrumental in bringing the ALPHA Program to the Springfield Diocese. At the age of 50, Paula returned to school and received her degree in Religious Studies from Our Lady of the Elms College. She used her degree in sharing her love for scripture and leading numerous Bible studies at her parish, Our Lady of the Cross in Holyoke. Paula was active in the Pro-Life movement. She and Harold were recipients of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life Pro-life Couple of the year award. Among her many other honors, Paula was a recipient of the Pope Pious X Award and was named the 2003 outstanding Woman of the Year by the Springfield Diocesan Union of Holy Name Society. Paula and Harold were members of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. Her children's memories of their mother include the years spent skiing at Blandford, swimming at the Canoe Club, road trips in the family station wagon, holidays at the Brunault homestead and endless games of cards. But the families' fondest memories are of the annual trips to the beach in Rhode Island which Harold and Paula were able to continue to enjoy with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Paula is survived by her loving children, Christine Laverdiere and her husband Marc, of Chicopee, Attorney Peter M. Brunault and his wife Patty of South Hadley, Attorney Andrea McGuinness, James Brunault and his wife Jennifer and Philip Brunault and his wife Sarah, all of Holyoke, 11 cherished grandchildren: Lauren, Danielle, Molly, Andrew, Matthew, Emily, Megan, Kara, Timothy, Samantha and Josiah; and 5 great grandchildren: Elena, Otto, Koen, Natalia, and Sara.
